Charles Martinet

Charles Martinet is an American actor best known as the voice of Mario in Nintendo's Super Mario franchise, a role he performed from 1991 to 2023.

He also voiced Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Baby Mario and Baby Luigi, and in 2018 Guinness World Records recognized him for performing the same character in one hundred video game titles, the most of any voice actor. When he stepped back from the role in 2023, Nintendo named him its Mario Ambassador.

Born in California in 1955, he trained at Drama Studio London and first voiced Mario at trade shows through Mario in Real Time, a live motion-capture system, before Super Mario 64 brought his voice to a wide audience in 1996.
